Last week the news broke that Lucy Griffith’s character Liv would be written off NBC’s Constantine and replaced by Zed, a character from DC/Vertigo’s Hellblazer comics. For those unfamiliar with Zed, the character first appeared in 1988 in Hellblazer #4 as a street psychic and romantic interest for John Constantine. The creators of the show have settled on Angelica Celaya to take up the role.

In addition to a slew of Spanish-language programming, Celaya has also made appearances in Burn Notice and Dallas. The casting of Celaya was confirmed on twitter via @NBCConstantine. Celaya has already chimed in on the casting update stating:

In related news, executive producer Daniel Cerone has hinted at the possibility of another DC Comics character to make an appearance on the show. In a recent interview with IGN Cerone stated, “So we talked to our DC representatives and we’re like what if we make this character Jim Corrigan, who goes on [to] become The Spectre.”

Executive producer David S. Goyer also confirms they’re interested in having a DC character spin out into their own series much like The Flash did from Arrow. There has been no confirmation on whether that spin-off would feature The Spectre or not.

Who is The Spectre? Jim Corrigan/The Spectre first appeared in 1940 in More Fun Comics #52. Corrigan is a police office who is reincarnated as The Spectre after being murdered by criminals. The Spectre, along with a slew of other DC characters, was rebooted in DC’s New 52 line of comics. He made his new debut in 2012  in The Phantom Stranger #0.

Constantine premieres Friday, October 24 at 10PM. Will you be watching? How do you feel about the casting of Angelica Celaya as Zed? Do you think The Spectre would make a good addition to the series? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
