Back in March 2014 it was announced that True Blood alum Lucy Griffiths would star opposite Matt Ryan in NBC’s upcoming series Constantine. In a surprising turn of events, the creators of Constantine have decided to move in a different direction and write Griffith’s character Liv out of the show. Rather than recasting the role they have decided to bring an entirely different female character to take her place.
Liv will be replaced by Zed, a character from the Hellblazer comics of which Constantine is based. The character Zed first appeared in 1988 in Hellblazer #4 as a street psychic and romantic interest for John Constantine. She is set to become Constantine’s right-hand woman in NBC’s adaptation. As of right now no one has been cast in the role. As for Lucy Griffith’s Liv, it is uncertain when she will be removed from the series, but Zed is said to appear early on in the show’s first season.
So, what do you think about this major casting change for Constantine? Were you looking forward to seeing Lucy Griffith play a major role in the series? Do you agree with the decision? Who would you like to see cast in the role of Zed? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
Constantine premieres Friday, October 24 at 10PM.
