X-Men: Days of Future Past Gets A Director’s Cut

Before the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, there had been a lot of talk about getting the band back together, with almost the entire cast from both the original trilogy and the prequel joining forces for one epic time-traveling adventure. And while we did get to see that happen, unfortunately with that large of a cast, many of the stars from the original trilogy had their roles reduced to cameos.

Most notable was the removal of a sequence featuring Anna Paquin as Rogue. There was supposed to be a scene where Iceman and Magneto teamed up to rescue her in the dystopian future. However, Bryan Singer had to cut the scene from the film during the editing process, calling it “extraneous,” though glimpses of it can be seen in some of the early trailers. This left Rogue’s part to a very short, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance near the end. But, as everyone suspected upon hearing that news, the scene will live on via the DVD/Blu-ray release. But not only that, a so-called director’s cut of the movie has been promised by producer Lauren Shuler Donner via twitter:

I say “so-called” director’s cut because of the vagueness of Donner’s response. Are we getting a full director’s cut/extended version, or just the usual deleted scenes that most movies have these days? It’s not clear just yet, but at least we know that we’ll finally get to see that promised scene with Rogue. And either way that sounds awesome.

X-Men: Days of Future Past currently has no release date for its DVD/Blu-ray, but we’ll keep you updated as we learn more. So what do you think about this new extended version? Do you think it’ll add something to the movie or do you think Rogue’s scene probably was cut for a good reason? Let us know in the comments!
