Cover for Bloodshot #10
Sunday, June 16, during a Valiant Entertainment panel at Special Edition NYC, Valiant CEO Dinesh Shamdasani confirmed that a Bloodshot movie is in the works. Adding to the apparent confirmation is the possibility that Matthew Vaughan (Kick-Ass) will be directing the film.
The character Bloodshot was first introduced in 1992 in the Valiant publication Eternal Warrior. Since then he has been reintroduced in his own series part of Valiant Entertainment’s critically praised relaunch in 2012. One of the character’s defining attributes is his ability to regenerate from almost anything due to the nanites in his bloodstream.
Obviously, the Bloodshot movie is still in very early stages of production. As for which studio will take on the production it is still unknown. Matthew Vaughan would definitely be an ideal choice as the director of Bloodshot having already directed two successful comic book movies in the past including, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. His next adaptation Kingsman: The Secret Service, based on the comics by Mark Millar, is due out October 24, 2014.
Personally, I think this is amazing news. While I never read any Valiant Comics back in their heyday in the 90s, their recent relaunch has been very enjoyable. Bloodshot is currently one of my favorite titles from the publisher, so I’m definitely looking forward to a movie. I just hope they do the character justice.
