While this report has not been officially confirmed by Warner Bros., it appears Game of Thrones alum Jason Mamoa has been cast as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. The rumor of Mamoa’s inclusion in the films has been floating around the internet for months, but now HitFix claims that the rumors are true. HitFix states director Zack Snyder has even “finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon.”

Jason Mamoa is Aquaman

Considering Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be a Batman/Superman-centric movie, we can hopefully assume that Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman will only appear as a cameo in the film and will eventually take one of the spotlights in Snyder’s Justice League movie. Personally, I think Jason Mamoa is a great choice for Aquaman. For one, let’s face it, Jason Mamoa is awesome. Secondly, historically speaking I feel Aquaman has often been the butt of too many jokes, being that he’s basically a superhero who talks to fish. That being said you can’t make fun of Jason Mamoa no matter how hard you try, and if you do you better make sure he doesn’t find you. Need I remind you of Game of Thrones season one?  Also, in a movie universe filled with Caucasian superheroes, being that Mamoa is Native Hawaiian, I think it’s nice, and necessary, to include someone of a different ethnicity.

All that being said, Warner Bros. still seems to be throwing a lot into one film, already having Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and now Jason Mamoa as Aquaman. Let’s hope the movie doesn’t become bogged down in DC cameos.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to release in theaters May 6, 2016. Feel free to let us know what you think about this casting decision in the comments.
