Deathlok #1

Hey, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans. Someone from your favorite Marvel television series is getting their own comic book pretty soon… sort of. It’s Deathlok!

Of course this isn’t the same Deathlok from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who goes by the name of Mike Peterson (J. August Richards). This new title from Marvel will introduce readers to a Deathlok by the name of Henry Hayes, who isn’t the first person to take on the Deathlok persona in the Marvel universe. Henry Hayes is described as “a veteran, a single parent” who is “transformed without his knowledge into the perfect weapon of destruction: Deathlok!”

Deathlok will be written by Nathan Edmonson (Black Widow) and will be drawn by Mike Perkins (Astonishing X-Men). Marvel is clearly trying to cash-in on the popularity of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Executive Editor Tom Brevoort states, “viewers familiar with the character concept from his appearances on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series ought to feel right at home getting in on the ground floor of this new series with an all new Deathlok.” Brevoort also describes the series as follows:

In the tradition of The Bourne Identity, Deathlok will offer a high-intensity thrill ride mixed with a voyage of discovery, as Henry is forced to peel back the onion-skin of his own existence to get to the truth—and to wrest back control of his life from his corporate overseers!

Deathlok is set to hit store shelves this October 2014. Until then Deathlok can currently be seen in the first issue of Marvel’s limited series Original Sins.
