Five New Adaptations Heading to Syfy

Syfy has done very well with their television adaptations like Bitten, based on the series of novels by Kelley Armstrong, and Haven, loosely based on Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid. The channel has already announced several more adaptations including Dominion, based on the film Legion, and 12 Monkeys, based on the 1995 film of the same name. Now Syfy has just announced five new series heading to their line-up and four of them are based on comic books.

Four Comic Book Adaptations Heading to SyFy

Syfy plans on adapting Ronin from DC Comics, Pax Romana from Image Comics, Clone from Image Comics’ Skybound imprint, and Letter 44 from Oni Press. In addition they will be adapting the Lev Grossman novel The Magicians. All of these properties have science fiction and/or fantastical elements that would feel right at home amongst Syfy’s shows like Helix, Defiance, Lost Girl, etc.

Ronin, written by Frank Miller (Sin City), is a six-issue miniseries which tells the tale of a 13th-century Samurai reborn in a dystopian New York City. It will be produced as a miniseries for Syfy by Warner Horizon Television and DC Entertainment.

Pax Romana, written and illustrated by Jonathan Hickman (East of West), is a four-issue miniseries which follows a group of enhanced soldiers sent back in time to Rome in 312AD to change the past. The Syfy miniseries adaptation will be written by Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia (Warehouse 13) with Hickman himself will serve as co-executive producer.

Clone, written by David Schulner (The Event), follows Dr. Luke Taylor as he comes to the realization that he is one of many clones. The series adaptation will be written by Schulner and will be executive produced by himself and Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead).

Letter 44, written by one of today’s busiest comic book writers Charles Soule (She-Hulk, Superman/Wonder Woman), follows the 44th president of the United States being given the knowledge from his predecessor that alien technology has been discovered in the deep reaches of space. Terminator 3 director Jonathen Mostow is set to write and executive produce the series adaptation.

Lastly, The Magicians, written by Lev Grossman (Codex), follows Quentin Coldwater, a student at a college for magicians. The series adaptation will be written and executive produced by Sera Gamble (Supernatural) and John McNamara (In Plain Sight).

So, there you have it. Syfy has five new series/miniseries currently in development. Personally, I’m really looking forward to Letter 44. Currently on its 6th issue, Letter 44 has been one of my favorite monthly reads. What do you think? Are you excited to see any of these properties adapted to the small screen? Let us know in the comments.
