The Amazing Spider-Man 4 is no longer going to be released on May 4, 2018. Sony has decided to go ahead with their plans for spinoff films Venom and Sinister Six before making the fourth installment of their Spidey reboot.
Producer Matt Tolmach explained their decision in an interview with Den of Geek:
Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4, we’re going to do Sinister Six, Venom, and Spider-Man 3. There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies. So we’re just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don’t know yet what [Spider-Man 4] is going to be.
Tolmach went on to explain that a Spider-Man film will be released in May of 2018, but it probably will be one of the spinoff films instead. Sony is playing the long game with their Marvel properties, just as Disney/Marvel Studios is, but will it pay off in the same way? Tell us what you think in the comments below!
