When J.K. Rowling revealed last year that she was working on a new, original screenplay based on the Harry Potter schoolbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we were told that it would be the first of a series of movies, but there were no further details on just how many installments we could expect. Now, thanks to an interview with Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara, we know that Fantastic Beasts will be made into a trilogy of adventures focusing on magizoologist Newt Scamander.
In Rowling’s initial statement about the planned franchise, she’d thanked Tsujihara for his support in the project, and in the new interview she went further into details about how vital he was in the creation of this series:
When I say he made ‘Fantastic Beasts’ happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth. We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!
So Potter fans, say a big thank you to Tsujihara! And maybe soon he’ll let us in on when the new movie is expected to start filming.
What do you think? Excited by the idea of a trilogy? Hoping for more? Sound off in the comments!
