‘Defiance’ Season Two Premiere Date and Webisodes Announced

Defiance PosterDefiance, created by Rockne S. O’Bannon (Farscape), kicks off its second season Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 8/7c on SyFy. This is a change in schedule for Defiance, as it used to air on Mondays during its previous season. In addition to Defiance, SyFy will also premiere their new series Dominion that same day at 9/8c. Dominion is based on the 2010 film Legion.

Taking place in 2046, a time when Earth is cohabited by humans and aliens alike, the series follows Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his adoptive daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas) while they live each day in the city of Defiance. Defiance being a city where humans and aliens co-exist and the political situation is complicated at best. In a recent press release NBC Universal stated the following about the upcoming second season:

As the story of Defiance resumes, the lives of the townspeople are in drastic turmoil. The Earth Republic has assumed control of the town, with far-reaching consequences including a new mayor. Nolan (Grant Bowler) traverses the badlands to find a lost Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), Amanda (Julie Benz) has an unexpected new role in the town as she searches for Kenya and the Tarr family desperately tries to keep control of their criminal empire in the midst of dramatic changes. Joining the cast this season are James Murray as new mayor Niles Pottinger, Anna Hopkins as Earth Republic soldier Jessica “Berlin” Rai and William Atherton as Earth Republic official Viceroy Mercado.

June may seem awfully far away, but to keep you entertained until then SyFy has released five webisodes that can currently be viewed on SyFy.com. The episodes pick up right where season one left off, as Joshua Nolan searches for his missing daughter Irisa. In addition, the webisodes seem to flesh out some of Nolan and Irisa’s past.

Defiance will continue to be executive produced by Kevin Murphy (Caprica), as well as Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin, who both served as producers on Smallville. The season two premiere will be directed by co-executive producer Michael Nankin, who had directed four episodes of the show’s first season.
