Earlier we gave you a look at Matt Ryan as supernatural detective John Constantine on the set of NBC’s Constantine. Now, NBC has released their first official image (right) of Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds) in his Constantine garb nicely lit and surrounded by smoke. His look definitely stays true to the look of the comic book character. Along with this image, executive producer David s. Goyer (Man of Steel) released the following statement:
I’ve been a fan of John Constantine since he was first introduced in 1985. This Constantine, envisioned by Neil Marshall and embodied by Matt Ryan, looks like he sprang directly from the comics’ covers. Fans old and new are going to be in for a treat.
Its interesting to point out that John Constantine in the comics is a heavy chain smoker. Many fans in comic book circles have speculated whether or not NBC would keep this character trait for their TV series. While I wouldn’t be surprised if they removed this one aspect to avoid condoning cigarette usage, I can’t help but think the smoke in this image implies they’re leaving it in.
The pilot for Constantine is set to begin filming soon. Matt Ryan will be joined by Lucy Griffiths (True Blood), Harold Perrineau (Lost), and Charles Halford (True Detective) in the pilot directed by Neil Marshall (Black Sails).
