Doctor Who Has A New Cast Member

DoctorWho_SamuelAndersonEarlier in the day the BBC announced that Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) would be joining on as recurring character, Danny Pink for the Eighth Season of Doctor WhoDanny Pink is a teacher, along side Clara (Jenna Coleman), at Coal Hill School . Now whether or not he’ll become a companion to Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is yet to be confirmed.

On joining the legendary show Samuel Anderson said:

“I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!”

What does Samuel mean by “involved”? Well the fan theories bounce him around between being the Ian to Clara’s Barbara, or a Rory to her Amy, and maybe as a new Jack Harkness as a romance option for The Doctor. Of course there is the obligatory theory he is playing the new version of The Master/Omega/or even The Rani. As long as we don’t have another Mikey season 1 era character that’s more annoying than useful I say bring on the dynamics! (Also, if you give a character the last name Pink, they’d better be bad ass.)

But I wouldn’t expect to see Danny Pink right off the bat. In the same announcement the BBC stated that filming for the fourth episode has just gone underway so we might not see him in the first episode. Or maybe we will and this was kept quiet until after he shot his first few scenes. Can’t wait to be surprised.

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added:

“For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!”

Now if only we can get 76 Totter’s Lane worked back in as  a location. I’ve always wanted to know more about that mysterious scrap yard.

Onwards!
