I wanted to name this post “Marvel May Possibly Be Thinking About Eventually Considering Maybe Discussing a Black Widow Movie” but it was too long. You see, I didn’t want to add fuel to the fire, because Marvel Studio’s president Kevin Feige said something in an interview with Total Film that has gotten blown out of proportion among fandom.
When discussing the character of Black Widow, here’s what Feige said:
We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March. Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.
I’ve seen several media outlets jumping the gun and saying that a film is being planned, and I’ve seen some fans jumping to that conclusion as well, but I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up only to have them dashed later down the road. What Feige said is very vague, and nothing may come of it. I’d love to see a Black Widow movie, and there is plenty of support from fans for that to happen, but let’s not assume it’s a go until we hear something more concrete.
Until she gets the solo film she deserves, you can see Black Widow in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, due out in the UK on March 26 and in the US on April 4, followed by The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. How badly do you want to see Black Widow get her own film? Let us know in the comments below!
I think it’s so ridiculous that they’re maybe just thinking about it. I’m excited for Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, don’t get me wrong, but it’s ridiculous that those movies were made before a movie for an already established and awesome character. Boo, Marvel. The only thing that’s more ridiculous is that there STILL isn’t a Wonder Woman movie, but then DC’s a giant mess on the movies front.
I completely agree (especially on DC being a giant mess). Black Widow deserves her own movie, and there are plenty of other female superheroes who are better known than Ant-Man and Guardians (like Ms. Marvel). At least Jessica Jones is getting a TV series. Hopefully that will do well and will encourage Marvel to keep branching out (and if it doesn’t do well, hopefully they won’t blame it on the fact that she’s a woman).
I’d love to see her have her own film! It’s long past time for a decent female-centric comic book movie.
