‘Gotham’ TV Series Casts Penguin, Alfred, and More

Batman: Earth One

Having already cast Ben McKenzie to play Detective James Gordon, Fox’s upcoming Gotham series, inspired by DC’s Batman, has added five more to the roster. Robin Lord Taylor, Zabryna Guevara, Erin Richards, Sean Pertwee, and Donal Logue have joined the cast.

Gotham Casting News

Robin Lord Taylor, who most recently acted in an episode of The Walking Dead, will play the iconic Batman villain, The Penguin, in his younger years. Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) will play GCPD Captain Essen, the boss to Ben McKenzie’s Gordon. Erin Richards, who has acted in episodes of Misfits and Being Human, will play Gordon’s fiancé Barbara Kean.

Sean Pertwee, who has recently guest starred in Elementary, has been selected to play Alfred Pennyworth, the butler to a young Bruce Wayne. The Hollywood Reporter describes Gotham’s Alfred as “a tough-as-nails ex-Marine from East London who has loyally served Thomas and Martha Wayne for years.” Recently it was announced that Jeremy Irons will be playing the movie version of Alfred in 2016. Hopefully, seeing two different versions of Alfred won’t be jarring for the audience.

Last, but not least, Deadline reported Wednesday that Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy, Copper) will play Detective Harvey Bullock. Deadline describes Bullock as “Gordon’s rough-around-the-edges partner and mentor who plays loose with police procedure.”

Including Detective Gordon, Fox now has six lead roles cast in their upcoming Gotham series. Considering what you know about the actors and the comic book characters they tend on portraying how do you feel about this latest casting news? Let us know in the comments.
