Even canon isn’t safe these days. An upcoming interview with J.K. Rowling for Wonderland magazine, with Emma Watson as guest interviewer, has been teased online with a fun little fact that has shippers back out on the battlefields. According to this interview, Rowling apparently regrets putting Hermione with Ron:

JK RowlingI wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron. I know, I’m sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.

Rowling also said that Ron and Hermione probably would have required marriage counseling, and she and Emma agreed that Harry would have been a better match. The full interview will be available on Friday, so there may be more details revealed that make this sound not quite as heart-breaking for Ron–and the fans–as it does now.

So what do you think? Do you agree with Rowling? Which pairing do you ship? Sound off in the comments!
