Hunger Games Cast & Crew Release Statement on Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Passing

Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching FireAfter the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46,  on February 2nd, 2014, the cast and crew of The Hunger Games film franchise have released a statement saying:

Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family.

Additionally, Lionsgate released a statement saying:

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation.  We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family.  Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send  our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.

Hoffman played the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in the films, and he had seven days of filming remaining on Mockingjay – Part 2, with Mockingjay – Part 1 currently in post-production. According to Lionsgate, the release dates of the films are not expected to be pushed back. Mockingjay – Part 1 is currently scheduled for release on November 21, 2014 with Mockingjay – Part 2  scheduled for November 20, 2015.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will be his final film upon release.
