When Fox’s Gotham TV series was first announced the original concept was for it to focus on a young Detective Jim Gordon years before he becomes police commissioner of the GCPD. Now it seems Gotham will take the Smallville route and be all about Bruce Wayne and the events that lead him to becoming Batman. Fox chairman Kevin Reilly told Deadline “The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12 years old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale).”
In addition to focusing on a young Bruce Wayne, Gotham will also feature some of Batman’s famous villains in their early years. So far Reilly has confirmed Catwoman, Riddler, and The Penguin. Also, Reilly describes Gotham as “an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.
It’s still too early to tell what to expect exactly from the show’s premiere. Chances are the show will begin with the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents. Previous reports have stated the pilot would focus on Detective Jim Gordon investigating their murder. That plot can still occur but judging from this recent news we can expect the story to shift focus on young Bruce dealing with this sudden tragedy.
So, how do you feel about this recent update on Gotham? Are you looking forward to seeing a show entirely about young Bruce Wayne or did you like their original idea to make Gotham a cop drama focused on Detective Jim Gordon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
I honestly just went from cautious optimism, and definitely wanting to see this show to having absolutely no interest what-so-ever. I continue to be happy I’m really a Marvel fan.
I feel like I’ve seen Batman’s origin a million times already. I definitely lost interest when I heard about this. DC Comics has so many great characters that they can utilize and bring to the forefront. Instead they’re just doing batman… again.
