Ant-Man is Marvel’s first movie in their Phase Three set of films, starring a superhero most people haven’t heard of and is sort of a big risk for them. So who do you get to play the titular hero? Rumors were flying around pitting Joseph Gordon-Levitt against Paul Rudd, though whether or not JGL was ever in the running is hard to say. But those rumors about Paul Rudd obviously weren’t far off because Marvel has officially announced him being cast as Ant-Man.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel, commented on Rudd joining the film:
When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.
Edgar Wright, creator of the Cornetto Trilogy, is writing and directing the film, which we still know very little about. Currently there are two popular scenarios being tossed around the rumor mill: the film will either explore Ant-Man’s origins, or it will explore his later years when Scott Lang tries to steal Ant-Man’s technology to become a new Ant-Man.
Ant-Man will be released in theaters July 31, 2015. What do you think about our newest superhero? Let us know in the comments below!
Edgar Wright and Paul Rudd? This is going to be amazing.
