Jeff Lemire's "Animal Man" Concludes in March

Along with several other titles, Animal Man was relaunched in the fall of 2011 under DC Comics’ New 52 initiative. Since then Animal Man has been both a critical and financial success for the publisher. This is due to the commendable writing from Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth). Unfortunately, today Lemire announced via his blog that not only will he be concluding his run on the series, but the series itself will end in March 2014.

With this news he has also assured Animal Man fans that they have not seen the last of Buddy Baker. The superhero will be joining a new Justice League series written by Lemire in April 2014. Here’s what he had to say:

After finishing the script for #29, I felt I had completed the story I wanted to tell with the Baker family and thought it was a perfect ending for the series.  The best way for me to explore new things with the character would be to move him to a team setting and shakeup his status quo, DC agreed, and the Animal Man series will end with my final issue in March.

The final issue of Animal Man will be issue #29 and will be pencilled by Jeff Lemire with help from Travel Foreman, who worked on the series when the title first relaunched. Until then readers have a few Animal Man issues still yet to be released, as well as plenty of other works from Lemire still running, including Trillium. Also, don’t forget to check out his take on the future of the DC Universe in The New 52: Futures End debuting next year.
