Star Trek 3 Hires New Writers

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Poster

After the mixed fan response to Star Trek Into Darkness, many fans were begging for some changes in the creative team for the next film. Their wish was partially granted when J.J. Abrams dropped out as director due to his Star Wars commitments, but now things are looking up even more for those disappointed fans. Two new writers have been signed on for the third film.

Robert Orci will be staying on, but it sounds like Alex Kurtzman (who is busy with Spider-Man) and Damon Lindelof are out. Joining Orci now will be J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Though they’ve worked for Abrams before on a script for Boilerplate, they have not yet produced a script that has been filmed. So we’ll have some very fresh blood for the Enterprise’s next outing. No release date–or plot details–have been released yet, so we’ll keep you updated as news filters in.

What do you think about the decision to hire new writers? What are your thoughts on hiring untested writers like Payne and McKay? Sound off in the comments!
