Amazing Spider-Man 2 Poster and Full Synopsis

Sony is gearing up for the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 next May with some new promo material, including the first trailer due out this Thursday. But until the trailer’s released we still have plenty of things to pour over for hints at the upcoming film. First, a new synopsis was released:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

An updated cast list was also released, but it left off Chris Cooper, who plays Norman Osborn. This has caused some raised eyebrows among fans as they speculate about Norman’s role in the film. It’s highly unlikely that he was cut, but why would he be left out? Cooper has recently spoken about how his role will be bigger in the third film, so perhaps they’re holding things back so as not to overload this one with too many villains. The updated list includes Garfield, Stone, Foxx, DeHaan, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.

A new poster has also been released, (originally as a triptych poster that found its way online before being officially revealed):

The poster shows Spider-Man facing off against Electro, Rhino, and what definitely appears to be the Green Goblin. But is that Harry or Norman? Online speculation, and a blown-up version of the poster, points to Harry being the Goblin this go-around, but the details still aren’t clear. Hopefully we’ll get more information from the trailer on Thursday.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in theaters May 2, 2014. What do you think about the poster and synopsis? Who do you think will be the Green Goblin? Let us know in the comments below!
