Do you want spinoff films for The Amazing Spider-Man? Sony certainly hopes so. Earlier this year, Sony signed up for a third and fourth installment of the franchise in what could be considered on overly confident move considering the only moderate success of the first film. But now Sony is expanding the franchise (and their confidence) with plans for spinoff movies made in the Amazing Spider-Man universe.
Sony’s CEO Michael Lynton said about the franchise and newly planned spinoffs:
We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works.
A number of scripts? And apparently Sony is working with Marvel and Disney so that they can use certain characters who may be legally owned by the other studios (if only that meant Spider-Man was going to show up in the Avengers one day). Co-chairman Amy Pascal was the first to reveal the information about the new films by saying “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains,” followed later by Lynton’s comments about scripts. Further details have yet to be released, but we’ll keep you updated.
What do you think about these new spinoffs? Who do you hope to see in the films? Sound off in the comments!
