Thanos’ Role in Guardians of the Galaxy Explained

ThanosWe’ve heard that Thanos will have a role in the upcoming Guardians of the GalaxyNow we have a little more information from Marvel’s president Kevin Feige. He’s promised a larger role for Thanos, even though Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) will be the main villain:

We’ve already said that Thanos plays a part in it and is a character in it. That in and of itself should tell you it’s connected to the other worlds. Ronan The Accuser is very much the main bad guy. And Thanos is lurking above it all. You will learn more about Thanos in Guardians, for sure. Certainly you’ll get more than the one turn around and smirk [in The Avengers]. You’ll get much more than that!

He also mentioned that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) will start off as a villain before joining the Guardians:

When we meet Gamora, she’s a bad guy working with Ronan and Nebula and Korath, and by extension for Thanos. Gamora doesn’t necessarily like doing that anymore, and tries to find a new path for herself. But she has a reputation as the deadliest woman in the galaxy that people aren’t greeting her with open arms.

After Thanos’ cameo at the end of The Avengers, most fans had probably assumed he would be the villain in that. With the news that Ultron will be the Big Bad in the sequel, it looks like Guardians will be where we have to get our Thanos fix. It sounds like he’ll have a similar part to his role in Avengers, being the villain behind the villain, but with more screen time. This begs the question, what else is he secretly lurking above?

As for Gamora, I’m liking this “deadliest woman in the galaxy” thing. And you know Saldana can pull it off.

Guardians of  the Galaxy will be released August 1, 2014. What do you think Thanos’ role will be through the Marvel films? How about Gamora? Let us know in the comments!
