The Giver Film Casts Its Jonas

The dystopian world of The Giver by Lois Lowry is moving forward to the big screen. Though Jeff Bridges has been attached to the film as the titular character, the casting of the main character of the film has just been announced.

Australian actor Brenton Thwaites will play Jonas, the young boy who is set to take The Giver’s place. In the novel, children are 12 years old when they are about to start training for their occupations. With Thwaites already in his early 20s, it will be interesting to see how the filmmakers explain away the age hike. If this pans out, this could begin another series of movies since The Giver is the first of a loose quartet.

Philip Noyce is set to direct and the filming is slated to begin in the fall in South Africa.
