The Hobbit Not Going to Comic-Con

In a new video blog, Peter Jackson has broken the disappointing news that there will be no Hobbit panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The sequel, The Desolation of Smaug, is still being finished and no one on the cast or crew can be spared. Though considering the news that the final scenes with Legolas, Gandalf, and Tauriel were just filmed, it sounds like at least some of the actors should be available, but I digress. However, the video blog does give a few bits and pieces of things to come as well as some interesting and hilarious behind-the-scenes information (Dwarvicise!), so all’s not lost:

Unlike that video, however, according to Jackson in a recent interview, Smaug will be a darker film than the last:

This has less humor in it for sure. The first film was where we allowed ourselves to try and capture something of the children’s book, but it is really not appropriate to do that anymore.

Some pretty serious stuff is going down and it is important that we don’t undercut that now.
Interesting. Things will be getting pretty dark and serious it looks like, leading up to the end. Hopefully that darkness will make the sequel a bit better than its predecessor.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will premiere December 13. What do you think about this latest news? Disappointed that there’ll be no new clips at SDCC? Hoping for a full-length Dwarvicise video? Let us know in the comments below!
