FilmDistrict Buys U.S. Film Rights to Anne Rice Novel

Christ The Lord Out Of Egypt book coverThis bit of news almost passed us by: FilmDistrict bought the U.S. distribution Rights to Anne Rice’s novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. A previous attempt to create a film based on this novel, the first installment of her Christ the Lord series, ended up being scrapped. But now with a new distributor secured, Cyrus Nowrasteh is attached to direct, with a script written by him and his wife, Betsy Nowrasteh. The film is expected to be released in March of 2015.

Christ the Lord marked a major change in Rice’s writing. Though it still bears her usual style, the book has a drastically different subject matter from what made Rice famous. It raised a few eyebrows at the time of publication because, instead of vampires, Rice’s new book focused on the childhood of Jesus, putting a unique spin on Biblical mythology and presenting him as a very human child. Still, despite not being what people expected, the novel became a bestseller and clearly has done well enough to garner a film deal. Would you go see it? Or would you rather they finally finish that Tale of the Body Thief film that has been languishing for years? Let us know in the comments below!
