Endeavour, the prequel to Inspector Morse set in the 1960s has been commissioned for another series of four two-hour long episodes by ITV. It’s hardly surprising after it’s first series was a huge success. The show averaged 7 million viewers per episode in the UK, that’s better than Doctor Who has been doing lately.
Stars Shaun Evans (Morse) and Roger Allam (Detective Inspector Fred Thursday) are both confirmed to return to the series. As are Russel Lewis (Writer) and Morse creator Colin Dexter will return as a consultant.
“The audience’s response to the classic crime partnership of Endeavour and Thursday has been incredible,” said ITV’s director of drama commissioning, Steve November, “We’re thrilled at the prospect of more Endeavour stories.”
Production on the second series will begin in October of 2013, with the series scheduled to air 2014.
You know, as much as I love Lewis I have yet to delve into Morris. So it comes as a surprise that Morris has a prequel. I assume it’s about him learning under this Thursday guy much the same way that Lewis learned under Morris.
I guess at some point they may even have a series on Hathaway. I kind of have a man crush on him so I’d probably watch that.
We only just started in on Morse. Just got through the one episode. I have to say I much prefer Endeavour at this point, but I’m sure that’ll change. The pilot for a show filmed in the 80s? Not surprised I’m meh about it right now. Endeavour is amazing though. We’ll probably end up doing Lewis after Morse.
