‘The IT Crowd’ to get a true Finale

The IT CrowdEver since The IT Crowd fourth series finished its run on the UK’s Channel 4 in 2010, the cast and the shows fans have been wishing for some kind of wrap up to the series. But it looked unlikely, what with the show having received a fifth series commission order, but it never having proceeded. Not to mention Chris O’Dowd’s been a bit busy lately building a name for himself in Hollywood (with a guest starring role opposite Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids, and a starring role in Family Tree on HBO, to name a couple).

But O’Dowd was actually one of those who wanted a return to that basement office and a true send off for the IT trio. Like fans, O’Dowd felt the trio needed “closure.” Well, it looks like he’s about to get his wish.

Graham Linehan, the show’s creator, tweeted on Wednesday that reports that a one-off special, concluding the story of Reynholm Industries IT Staff, would be happening this year were true.

It’s expected that The IT Crowd finale will begin shooting in the next few weeks, with an air date expected sometime later this year.

The IT Crowd is the story of the IT Dept at the fictional Reynholm Industries, made up of “a dynamic go-getter, a genius and a man from Ireland.” Or at least that’s how the fictional Denholm Reynholm described them. In truth they were Jen (Katherine Parkinson), who knows nothing about computers, Moss (Richard Ayoade), who is a genius with computers, but has no social skills to speak of, and Roy (O’Dowd), the man from Ireland. The show ran from 2006-2010 on the UK’s Channel 4.
