First look at Ben Kingsley in ‘Ender’s Game’

Entertainment Weekly have the first look at Ben Kingsley’s turn as Mazer Rackham in the long awaited film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s science fiction classic, Ender’s Game.

Enders Game - Mazer RackhamAccording to Kingsley, the process of bringing the iconic hero of the first Formic War to the screen is “alchemy”. His character is half-Maori, and a Maori tribal expert explained to Kingsley about the iconic tattoos on his character’s face that “Every gesture in the tattoo carries family history, family struggles — it’s your past,” says Kinsley. “I was so enthralled. He’s in quite a contained, stylized uniform but then this wonderful face tells his warrior history.”

Ender’s Game is the story of a boy prodigy, Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), who may be humanities only chance at destroying the Formics before humanity itself is destroyed. Rackham is an almost mythical character who is referenced throughout the novel as the hero of the first Formic war, a time when humanity united against a bug-like enemy bent on it’s destruction.
