Director Joseph Kosinski Talks TRON 3

Tron - Joseph KosinskiIt’s been a long hard wait for us TRON fans since TRON: Legacy was released in December 2010. With little news, and uncertainty at times over whether another film would even be made. Little tidbits here and there about the script being written, or the awesome that was TRON: Uprising, which is likely dead. But with Director, Joseph Kosinski, dedicated to getting Oblivion made and released, there wasn’t a lot to be said about TRON.

It looks like our fortunes might be changing.

In an interview with Collider at this weekends WonderCon, Kosinski reassured fans that Disney is very much dedicated to getting a third TRON film made, and that he expects to have a script in the upcoming weeks.

“I think I’m two weeks away from getting the draft,” said Kosinski, “This is a story we’ve been working on since 2009, so that’s four years now.  I’m really excited about the idea that we have for it.  I think it delivers on the promise that both TRON movies have made.  It opens the movie up, in a way that I think is going to give it a much broader appeal.  Whereas TRON really, ultimately, in the end, catered most to TRON fans, this idea broadens it some more, in really exciting ways.  But, it’s all about the script and making sure that that story is compelling enough to get all of us back together.  Those movies are hard to make.  It’s a two-and-a-half to three-year journey.  So, to go back in there and go back to the Grid, it’s going to have to be a pretty spectacular script.  We’ve got a great writer on it, so we’ll see.”

The working title on the film is TR3N, as Kosinski reveals a title has not officially been settled on. Which means a release date is probably not in the cards any time soon.
