Downton Abbey Gets 6 New Cast Members

Downton Abbey - Michelle DockeryEvery year the Downton Abbey cast expands and contracts, and after losing some major characters in Season 3, it’s time to add a few new faces to mix things up a bit.

Seasons 4’s incoming cast members include Lord Gillingham, an old Crawley family friend who has a history with Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) that dates back to their childhood, played by Welsh actor Tom Cullen; Dame Harriet Walter as a friend of Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess, Lady Shackleton; a visiting valet named Green played by Nigel Harman; and one episode appearances from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, who will play a singing house guest; Joanna David guest starring as the Duchess of Yeovil; and  the aristocrat Charles Blake, played by Julian Ovenden.

Downton Abbey has seen many great characters visit the house over the years and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome the new faces that will be joining the regular cast of Downton in series 4,” Downton executive producer Gareth Neame said in a statement. “We hope audiences will be as excited about them as we are.” While EP Rebecca Eaton, adds, “The addition of these characters can only mean more delicious drama — which is what Downton Abbey is all about.”
