J.K. Rowling’s latest book and first novel for adults, The Casual Vacancy, was released just a few months ago in September, but it already has a deal for a television series on BBC One. The adaptation has just been commissioned so the number of episodes is still unknown, but Rowling will apparently be working closely with producers on the project. In a press release, Rowling said:
I’m thrilled that the BBC has commissioned The Casual Vacancy. I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home.
In my humble opinion, I can’t agree more with the idea that the novel is suited more for television. With the large cast of characters and gradually unfolding plot, I think that a television series is a much better fit to do the story justice. Good job, BBC!
The Casual Vacancy television series is expected to air sometime in 2014. Looking forward to the adaptation? Do you think the BBC’s a better fit for the story instead of the big screen? Tell us what you think in the comments below!
