Some disappointing news to report: Samuel L. Jackson has said that he will not be in Iron Man 3. In fact, he says that he won’t be in a new Marvel film until the next Captain America, which means he must not be in the sequel to Thor either. In an interview with Total Film, he said:
I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier because I’m not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It’s a standalone Iron Man movie.
Jackson’s character, Nick Fury, mostly had brief cameo appearances in the previous films–often in the last scene after the credits–leading up to The Avengers. His role usually involved setting up that movie by gathering together the Avengers and other important plot points. I guess it makes sense that now the Avengers have gotten together he’s no longer needed for that, but it’ll be a shame not to see him popping up at the end like he always has.
Iron Man 3 opens, Jackson-less, on April 26, 2013, in the U.K. and May 3 in the U.S. Disappointed about Nick Fury not being in the new Iron Man? Sound off in the comments below!
