I woke up to amazing news this morning: That Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere would be recorded for BBC Radio 4! But that wasn’t all; on his webpage Neil posted not only a cast list of actors, all amazing, but also this delightful picture:
Yes, that is Benedict Cumberbatch. Yes, that is Natalie Dormer. Yes, that is James McAvoy. And yes, yes, that is Anthony Stewart Head.
James McAvoy will voice the main character Richard as he journeys from riches to rags, where the riches is a boring twenty-something life in London, and where the rags is magic-filled adventuring with the homeless in London Below. Natalie Dormer will play the young Lady Door on a quest to solve her parents’ murder, while David Harewood will voice cunning trickster the Marquis de Carabas. Benedict Cumberbatch will play the Angel Islington, formerly of Atlantis, now residing in the sewers of London. Anthony Stewart Head is voicing talkative assassin Mr. Croup, of the sinister, hilarious duo of Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar.
And if you didn’t think this cast could get any better, you’ll be in for a surprise when you hear the voice of Christoper Lee as the Earl of Earl’s Court! For a full cast list head on over to Mr. Gaiman’s web page.
This adaptation for radio is done by Dirk Maggs, who did the last three Hitchhiker’s Guide Radio adaptations. He is co-directing it with producer Heather Larmour.
Never read Neverwhere? No worries, this adaptation won’t air until the first four months of 2013, so you’ll have plenty of time to pick it up (or the comic) and read it over the holidays. You might even watch it.
