Casting Spoilers for X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men First Class line up

Professor X and Magneto Playing ChessHold onto your telepathy-blocking helmets, we’ve got some big news for you! Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will be reprising their roles of Magneto and Professor X in the upcoming sequel/prequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. Also reprising their roles of Magneto and Professor X will be Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.

Yes, you heard me–there will be two pairs of Magneto and Xavier in the upcoming film! And the answer to your question of “what the heck” can be found in the comic book storyline the movie takes its name from: in the “Days of Future Past” storyline, it alternated between the present day mutants (most likely Fassbender and McAvoy) and a dystopian future where the mutants are held in internment camps (probably McKellen and Stewart). Now, let me just say that this is purely speculation right now, but if true, let me also say that it could make one awesome movie.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in theaters July 18, 2014. What do you think of the casting of Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart? Curious? Excited? Horribly confused as to what it could mean for the timeline of the original X-Men movies, which have already been retconned by the last film? Let us know in the comments below!
