There’s been rumors over the last couple weeks that Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke were spotted filming together in Greece, and now Variety is reporting that it’s true, and they’ve just wrapped.
Before Midnight follows the much loved indie hits Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, telling the story of star-crossed lovers Jesse and Celine. Again penned by the trio, the film will wrap up the romance that started with a chance meeting and whirlwind night in Vienna, and last saw the pair in Celine’s apartment in Paris. In a statement from Linklater, Delpy and Hawke, the collaborators said of the film that “It’s great to be back together again, this time in beautiful Greece to revisit the lives of Celine and Jesse nine years after Jesse was about to miss his flight.”
The film does not currently have a distribution deal, but it very may well happy at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend, and chances are we’ll see the film in theaters sometime in 2013.
The first two films are just so sweet and just genuinely pleasant. I can’t wait for more.
Eek, there’s more? That’s so exciting! After Before Sunset, this is the only team I trust to keep making more films years after the prior ones even if there was no overall plan for multiple films from the beginning. I can’t wait either. When I step back and look at it, though, it’s also just so cool: I can’t think of any other set of films that were made quite like this (in terms of the whole sequels years later that felt just so seamless).
