Bad news for Avengers fans in the UK: Joss Whedon’s commentary track will not be included on the UK DVD and Blu-ray release of Avengers Assemble, (the UK’s official title for The Avengers). Apparently, Joss recorded his commentary too late to be added in the UK but it will still be on the US release. According to a tweet from Empire Magazine, there are currently no plans for a later release that will contain a version of the DVD/Blu-ray with Joss’s commentary. There will still be plenty of great bonus features on the UK release such as deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, a gag reel, and a 90-minute documentary called Building a Dream: Assembling the Avengers, but it seems unfair to not include a special feature in just one country.
Avengers Assemble will be released September 17 on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK. I’m sure that die-hard fans in the UK will probably also pick up a copy of the US version, released September 25, to get that precious director’s commentary track. Are you upset at being deprived of Joss Whedon’s pearls of wisdom and snarky remarks? Sound off in the comments below!
I wonder if this title is being region coded or not. If not, it’s just a matter of buying the US release. That’s the one good thing about Blu-ray, it’s not always coded.
Ugh, really? Jerks. I’m not directly affected by this, but I sympathize with it greatly (I still mourn the fact that we can’t get the interview with Diana Wynne Jones about the Howl’s Moving Castle movie. It is on the UK version but not the US, and I can’t find a copy or transcript of it anywhere). I mean it looks like it happened for practical reasons, but still. When are companies going to learn that they need to give everyone access to the same things, or people are just going to find other ways around it? Hopefully it won’t affect the Blu-ray, like Valerie is saying.
There’s a reason we own three different copies of Serenity’s DVD release, including the Australian one.
Oooh, interesting. What’s on the Australian DVD?
Also, I just found a clip at least from the DWJ interview, someone just uploaded it recently. I love how people on the Internet share with each other.
