James Bond Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Daniel Craig as James BondThe James Bond franchise will celebrate fifty years of life on the big screen on October 5 this year and on that day a series of events around the world will be launched in honor of its anniversary. On “Global James Bond Day,” as it’s been dubbed, among the numerous events planned there will be an online and live charity auction through Christie’s in London, a survey to find people’s favorite 007 film, a film retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, a “Music of Bond” night in Los Angeles hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, and a fashion exhibit, “Designing 007: 50 Years of James Bond Style,” at the Toronto International Film Festival. A documentary, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, will also be released on October 5.

The next film in the long-lived franchise, Skyfall, is due to be released in theaters on November 9 in the US and October 26 in the UK. Empire Magazine has a preview of Bond’s latest outing, including interviews with actor Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes. Also, the previous 22 Bond films will be released this year in a Blu-Ray boxset for the first time on September 24 as part of the anniversary celebrations. Looks like this year will be very Bond-ish.
