It’s been three years since the debut of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, but its sequel is currently in production. The Wolverine will see the return of Hugh Jackman in the title role of Logan, aka Wolverine, everyone’s favorite fast-healing, adamantium-clawed mutant. The official synopsis for the sequel has just been released from Marvel Studios:
“Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.”
It might be brief, but it should definitely get fans talking. Who can’t wait to see Wolverine duking it out with samurai?
Directed by James Mangold and written by Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback, The Wolverine is due to be released July 26, 2013.
This could be really cool. I’m just highly suspicious of it now because the previous Wolverine movie was so terrible. They already ruined a couple fan favorite characters (Gambit and Deadpool, though the worst part was there were glimmers of how good the characters could have been, just with better writing and directing), so I’m not sure how I feel about the next one. I think I’ll wait and see what people say about it.
I never saw the Origins film because it looked so terrible. My husband told me I made the right decision (Gambit is his favorite X-men, he was not pleased). I’m still pretty cautious about this one because I have to admit I’m just really not a fan of Wolverine at all. I find his character annoying when I’d like to focus on the more compelling characters around him. So I’m not sure if I’ll see this one or not. Depends on what it looks like as more information comes out I think.
I basically feel like they hired good actors to play Gambit and Deadpool, but everything else was wrong. I’ll watch a Wolverine movie because I don’t have many preferences when it comes to specific X-Men. Like you, I’m just very cautious about this. On top of everything else, I’m always very cautious when Hollywood has a white leading character go somewhere in Asia or Africa. It’s better in the comic books (a bit) when Wolverine goes to Japan, but in this case I’m worried we’re going to get Last Samurai levels of cultural appropriation.
