Last week it was officially revealed that Joss Whedon had signed on to write and direct the sequel to The Avengers. However no release date was mentioned at the time, though fans immediately started to speculate on when the highly anticipated continuation might come out. Now we have a date and it turns out we’ll have to wait another three years to discover what happens next to our beloved team of superheroes. A short, official statement was released by Disney/Marvel saying:
The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest superhero blockbuster and third highest-grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the untitled Marvel’s Avengers sequel, set for release May 1, 2015.
Can’t wait that long for your next Marvel movie fix? Look out for Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World in 2013 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014!
