Doctor Who, S1 Ep12 – Bad Wolf

Along the way, The Doctor realizes that the “Gamestation” is the same as “Satellite Five” from the episode with Simon Pegg. Lynda explains that one hundred years ago, when The Doctor stopped the Great Thing-In-The-Ceiling, he created a knowledge vacuum. There was suddenly no news, and the human race declined quickly. So, in essence, The Doctor in his meddling, is responsible for the human race being lazy telly watchers.

Anyway, the trio find Rose just as she is declared the weakest link (goodbye!) and is about to be disintegrated by the Anne-droid (haha, I see what you did there!). Jack and The Doctor don’t reach her in time. She gets turned into a little pile of ash. The Doctor is despondent and he, Jack and Lynda all get arrested.

Of course, they break out like five seconds later.

They make their way to the control room and meet The Controller who is a woman attached to a multitude of tubes. Her job, which isn’t really explained, is to monitor the transmissions. She keeps telling staff to get back to work, even when some staffers try to explain to her that The Doctor is loose around the satellite.

Jack manages to find the TARDIS and realizes that the disintegrator beam is actually a transmat beam as well and that Rose is alive! Yay!

Uh oh

The Doctor tries to interact with the Controller but is informed that the Controller cannot talk to him because he is not staff. However, when a solar flare occurs, the station shuts down and the Controller starts talking to The Doctor. She talks about her masters, how the solar flare has blocked them from her thoughts for a brief moment in time. She tells The Doctor that her masters fear him but does not tell him who they are.

The Controller keeps talking, even after the solar flare, and she is transported away. It is then that the masters are revealed to be DALEKS.

Jack tracks Rose to a section of space that is above Earth but the satellite shows nothing is there. But when they look closer, they see two hundred Dalek ships.

The Daleks contact The Doctor and show him that they have Rose. They try to bargain with The Doctor and he simply says “No.”

The episode ends with The Doctor being bad ass.

The Doctor: *No*! ‘Cause this is what I’m gonna do – I’m gonna rescue her! I’m gonna save Rose Tyler from the middle of the Dalek fleet, and then I’m gonna save the Earth, and *then* – just to finish you off – I’m gonna wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky!
Dalek: But you have no weapons, no defenses, no *plan*!
The Doctor: Yeah, and doesn’t that scare you to death?

The one thing that I really didn’t like about this episode was the background music was at times OVERPOWERING and a really weird techno type mix that made my eardrums bleed. All in all though, it is a good ep that sets up the epic showdown that is the season finale.
