WATCH: First Trailer Released for ‘Birds of Prey’

After releasing a brief teaser in front of IT Chapter Two screenings in September and unveiling several Harley Quinn-centric posters just yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures has now released the first full trailer for Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn just in time for this year’s New York Comic Con.

Directed by Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) and written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), Birds of Prey stars Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, as well as Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ewan McGregor as the villainous Black Mask.

As evident by the newly released posters and trailer, despite being a Birds of Prey movie, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn seems to be the star of the show. Judging from the trailer, other DC Comics mainstays like Huntress, Black Canary, and the GCPD’s own Renee Montoya, have been placed on the sidelines in comparison. Harley Quinn seems to serve as the film’s catalyst, forming this team together following a break up between her and The Joker, formerly played by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad.

Warner Bros. continues to stray farther away from their original dark and gritty DC extended universe, delivering something seemingly fun and lighthearted with Birds of Prey, featuring a colorful lead and vibrant visual style. Both Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor seem to be having fun with their characters, but let’s hope future trailers and the film itself feature a little more of the rest of team and their performances.

Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn releases in theaters February of 2020. Check out the full trailer and posters below, and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
