WATCH: ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Official Trailer

scary stories to tell in the dark

The full-length trailer for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is finally here! And it does not disappoint. Avid readers of the bestselling children’s horror series, as well as horror fans in general, will be pleased about the film’s serious tone and emphasis on the scary. Although the film still doesn’t have a rating, we have a suspicion that it will probably lean toward PG-13 considering the dark themes and frightening images—including a few well placed jump scares—present in the trailer.

It’s certainly dark, it’s atmospheric, and the faithful recreation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark‘s most notorious monsters is, so far, impressive. Harold, the corpse with the infamous missing toe, and the Pale Lady all make appearances, along with a few other favorite creepy tales. It’s hard to tell right now if the film will live up to the hype and nostalgia, but for now we’re definitely excited to see what this adaptation brings with so much talent behind the camera and a cast of relatively new, young faces on screen.

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is directed by André Øvredal and produced by Guillermo del Toro. It stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn. It’s slated for release in theaters everywhere on August 9, 2019.
