Let the fan speculation and theories begin…

American Horror Story finally has a title and theme for season 9. After a long wait for any sort of news on the latest installment of the popular anthology horror series, creator Ryan Murphy posted a teaser on Instagram. The teaser is a throwback to 1980s slasher horror films with a very strong Friday the 13th vibe. American Horror Story will be taking inspiration from classic ’80s slasher flicks with American Horror Story: 1984. While the name evokes iconic imagery of knife-wielding killers and ill-fated teens, it’s also a year strongly associated with the novel by George Orwell. Will there be dystopian elements in this season, too? It could be an interesting mix of genres.

Not much else is known about American Horror Story: 1984 so far, but the new theme might help the series find its way back to its terrifying origins. This will be the first American Horror Story without Evan Peters, who confirmed recently that he’ll be sitting this season out. Emma Roberts and Olympian Gus Kenworthy are the only officially confirmed cast members right now. Fans will be eager to see which cast members will return for this season over the next few months as more information is revealed.
