First ‘Joker’ Teaser Begs You to Put on a Happy Face

After debuting the film’s first official poster yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures has now unveiled the first teaser for writer/director Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker. Starring Joaquin Phoenix as the latest incarnation of the titular DC Comics villain, Joker is set to bring back the dark side of DC Comics to the big screen following Warner Bros.’ recent success with the fun-filled Aquaman and current critical success of the kid-friendly Shazam!

Joining Joaquin Phoenix are Zazie Beetz and Brian Tyree Henry of the hit FX series Atlanta, as well as Brett Cullen (True Detective) as Thomas Wayne, Douglas Hodge (Lost In Space), as Alfred Pennyworth, and Hollywood icon Robert De Niro (The Irishman).

Director Todd Phillips has not been shy on Instagram in recent months, teasing a healthy dose of set photos as well as a screen test back in September 2018 which in turn established the expected mood of the film.

While set photos and video have been released, actual plot details have been light. Judging from today’s trailer debut we see there is some definite influence from the classic graphic novel The Killing Joke written by Alan Moore, which sees the character struggle as a stand-up comedian before a series of tragic circumstances eventually leads him to becoming the iconic DC Comics villain known as The Joker.

Joker is currently set to release in theaters October 4th, 2019. Check out the first official twisted teaser below and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
