Bane Debuts in Latest ‘Gotham’ Trailer

Gotham may have taken a short break, returning on March 21st for the final three episodes, but fans who can’t wait caught a glimpse of the mad chaos in the newest trailer. Everyone’s favorite comic book city is about to come face to face with the latest iteration of an iconic supervillain.

The episode title, “I Am Bane,” kind of gives the whole thing away. But Gotham viewers already met Bane as his civilian identity: Eduardo Dorrance (played by Shane West). He was first introduced earlier this season as the leader of Delta Force and an old military friend of Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie), although much had changed for him since they last saw each other. He works for Theresa Walker, the former Secretary of Homeland Security who tried to have all the criminals of Gotham City secretly and illegally killed and who refused to help the plight of the civilians. After her actions were exposed, so too was Eduardo’s role in the proceedings. This led to an all-out battle between him and Jim Gordon, and the latter left Eduardo for dead. But if comic book shows have taught us anything, it’s that if you don’t double check you’re going to end up with an even more impossible-to-defeat villain.

Which is exactly the case with Eduardo, who was rescued by Walker and now goes by the name Bane. Gordon and Bruce (David Mazouz) will have to face him once more and protect the city from both his and Walker’s evil plans, all while juggling their own personal lives in the form of the villainess/antihero Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) and the very pregnant Barbara Kean (Erin Richards). How all the loose ends will be tied up in merely three episodes is anybody’s guess, but Gotham is sure to go out with a bang after five seasons of playing fast and loose with the wildest parts of DC canon. Check out the trailer below and don’t forget to catch “I Am Bane” on March 21st!

Gotham airs Thursdays at 8/7c on FOX.
