The Baby-Sitters Club is Coming to Netflix

If you grew up in the 90s, chances are good you read and loved Ann M. Martin’s bestselling series, The Baby-Sitters Club (or the companion books for younger readers, the Little Sister series). The Baby-Sitters Club told the story of five best friends who decided to start their own babysitting business in their town, and all the adventures they had along the way. The books were wildly popular, having sold over 180 million copies. The series was adapted for the big screen in 1995 and starred Schuyler Fisk, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Larisa Oleynik. In the current wave of 90s nostalgia, it was only a matter of time before someone remembered our favorite teen babysitters. Netflix and Walden Media are teaming up for a 10 episode series based on the beloved novels.

“The themes of The Baby-Sitters Club still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs,” said Melissa Cobb, vice president of Kids & Family at Netflix. “Together with Ann M. Martin and the team at Walden Media, our ambition is to contemporize the storylines and adventures of this iconic group of girlfriends to reflect modern-day issues.” Whether you remember the books from your own childhood or you’re a tween just discovering them now, this series should be a great time and a great opening to important conversations.

So readers, are you as excited as I am for Kristy, Dawn, Mary Anne, Stacey, and Claudia to once again grace our screens? Do you think the series will be updated to 2019 or will we get more of Claudia’s spectacular 90s fashion choices? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
