Veep returns for final season on March 31

Veep HBOHBO announced the release date for its Emmy-winning comedy, Veep, starring multiple Emmy-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer.

The political satire as created by Armando Iannucci before David Mandel took over as showrunner for the fifth season. Veep chronicles the misadventures of U.S. vice president Selina Meyer as she and her team swear and fumble their way to the presidency and beyond.

The final season will be comprised of only seven episodes this time instead of the usual ten. Mandel discussed this in a report by Deadline, saying:

“It wasn’t a big decision; we went in [after] having finished the last season to figure out where it was going to end and working out how long it would take to get to the end…We were given a wonderful chance by HBO to explore — whether that meant two years, two years and a movie — and we reached a natural point story-wise. So I can only say the [seven episodes] are crazy, jampacked episodes. There’s more than 10 episodes of material jammed in to them.”

Louis-Dreyfus also spoke about the fate of her character, saying that Selina becomes “truer to herself by the time the season ends.” She likewise said that where the show ends up is a place she is very happy about.

The ensemble cast of the show also includes Tony Hale (Arrested Development, A Series of Unfortunate Events) as Gary, her devoted bodyman; Anna Chlumsky as Amy, her right hand; Matt Walsh as Mike, her former spokesperson; Reid Scott as the ultra-ambitious Dan; Timothy C. Simons as Jonah Ryan, a former hanger-on turned congressman; Kevin Dunn as Ben, her campaign manager; Gary Cole as analyst Kent; Sam Richardson as staffer Richard; and Sarah Sutherland as Catherine, Selina’s daughter.

In 2017, Veep received five Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, the show’s third win in a row, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus received the Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, her sixth consecutive win in the category. Overall, the show has received 17 Primetime Emmys.

Don’t miss the last ever season of Veep on March 31 on HBO.
