Carmen Sandiego Netflix posterNetflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming highly-anticipated animated series, Carmen Sandiego.

According to a report by Collider, the first season will consist of 22 episodes, run by Duane Capizzi (The Batman) as co-executive producer and showrunner alongside executive producer C.J. Kettler (The Tick). An official poster and promotional images from the show have likewise been released.

Carmen Sandiego is the name of a villain and international master thief and star of a series of educational computer games and an educational game show. She is the ringleader of the criminal organization called V.I.L.E. and the nemesis of all members of the ACME Detective Agency (players of the computer game often portray detectives from this organization). She and her cohorts constantly plan to steal treasures from around the world.

The Netflix series is putting a new spin on Carmen’s tale, and the trailer shows that this will be an origin story of sorts, showing how she trained to be a professional thief at the V.I.L.E. organization and how she eventually becomes a thief who steals from other thieves. It’s an intriguing premise and with the sleek animation, the exciting musical score and theme, and the level of quality expected of a Netflix series, this one should not be missed. In fact, it’s already on Collider’s list of Most Anticipated New Animated Series of 2019.

Here is the official synopsis:

“Everybody asks “WHERE is Carmen Sandiego?”, but nobody asks “WHO is Carmen Sandiego?” The iconic woman in red returns for new international capers and a peek into her past.”

Carmen Sandiego season one will premiere on January 18, 2019 on Netflix.
