Mackenzie Foy and Misty Copeland Are Real-Life Princesses and I Love Them

So just because I apparently didn’t have enough reasons to be excited for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Mackenzie Foy and Misty Copeland are giving me more. In case you’ve missed my incessant gushing, here’s a summary of the movie:

Try not to fall in love. I dare you.

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.

I’m excited. Disney is excited. And this week, that excitement was cranked up a notch when fans visiting the Happiest Place On Earth to catch some exclusive footage from the upcoming film were treated to a surprise visit by Foy herself. Foy looked absolutely adorable as she posed for pictures in front of the magical kingdom, and no doubt fans were excited to see the lead of the film as well as the sneak peek. And it was lovely to see that she’s as jazzed to see the movie as we are! Want some more good news? From October 5th, preview footage of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will be available for people visiting Disney Parks. So if you’re around, swing by and catch the magic!

A Disney Princess.

Onto our other Disney princess (she’s a Disney princess, I’ve decided): this week, Disney released a short featurette on Misty Copeland and her role. Interspersed with short clips of the movie featuring Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley), Copeland talks about how thrilled she is to be in the film, how her role differs from the original story, and how important Swan Lake is to the fabric of a ballet dancer. As we know, Copeland is the first Black American principal ballet dancer in the history of the American Ballet Theatre, which is a Big Deal. It’s important for little girls of colour – especially Black girls – to see themselves as a thing of beauty, grace, and power, especially in something so prolific as a Disney movie. It’s a lovely little video, and Foy even says the dance is one of her favourite parts of the movie. I can’t wait!

Check out the rest of the pictures and featurette below, and let us know what you think!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms opens on November 2nd 2018
